Launch of the Tempo Blockchain Mainnet

Stripe and Paradigm have taken a significant step forward by activating the mainnet of a new Level 1 blockchain - Tempo. This project is focused on high performance and offers an open Machine Payment Protocol (MPP), co-developed with the fintech giant. The implementation of Tempo immediately garnered interest from many companies that have already integrated its solutions, such as Alchemy, Dune Analytics, and Merit Systems.

Funding and Partnerships

In October 2025, the project received a strong financial boost. During the Series A round, Tempo raised $500 million at a $5 billion valuation. Thrive Capital, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital, and SV Angel participated in this impressive round, although the startup was incubated by Stripe and Paradigm, they did not participate in this round.

Since the public testnet went live in December, many significant players from various economic sectors, including Anthropic, DoorDash, Mastercard, Nubank, OpenAI, Revolut, Shopify, and Visa, have begun testing the Tempo-based blockchain solutions.

Machine Payment Protocol (MPP)

A key feature of the new network is the MPP standard. This protocol allows software agents and services to make automatic payments, and the code itself is open source. Uniquely, MPP can be applied not only for the Tempo blockchain but also for various financial channels. Companies such as Visa for card payments, Stripe for its wallets, and Lightspark for Lightning Network transactions have already adapted it.

Application Prospects

The MPP protocol supports sessions for continuous payments, allowing AI agents to reserve funds in advance and spend them in the process of consuming services. This innovative solution reduces the necessary transaction verification and offers the potential to consolidate micropayments into a single final transfer.

Conclusion

The launch of the Tempo mainnet and the implementation of the MPP protocol represent significant changes in the infrastructure of financial transactions.

  • Strengths: High throughput and integration with major players
  • Risks: Competition with other blockchain solutions and potential technical challenges
  • Opportunities: Expansion of applications and integration with a broader range of services
  • Threats: Risk of regulatory changes and potential security issues
