Zcash, a privacy-focused cryptocurrency, is soon to introduce wallets with recovery mechanisms to protect against quantum threats. This was announced by the founder and CEO of Zcash Open Development Lab, Josh Swihart, at the Consensus conference. The final transition to post-quantum standards is expected to take between 12 to 18 months.

Private Payment Systems

The goal of Zcash is to return the industry to private peer-to-peer payments. According to Swihart, Bitcoin acts as a store of value and is suitable for use in ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), but it is not sufficiently protected as a confidential settlement system due to the transparent ledger. Public balances allow tracking of assets, which poses a risk for users.

Infrastructure Development

The Zcash project also aims to improve scalability, planning to increase the network’s throughput to the levels of payment systems like Mastercard and Visa. This will allow for more transactions and increase the network’s usability.

Popularity and Price Growth

Recent developments have led to an increase in popularity and the price of the ZEC token. Over the week, its price rose more than 60%, reaching $585. A significant factor was Multicoin Capital co-founder Tushar Jain’s announcement of forming a substantial position in Zcash.

Innovations and Collaborations

Zcash is actively working on integrating new technologies. For instance, through the mobile wallet Zodl, users can exchange Bitcoin, Solana, USDC, and other assets into secure ZEC. Cross-chain bridges allow Zcash to connect with other leading blockchain platforms such as Solana and Hyperliquid.

Next Steps and Conclusions

To enhance user experience and increase transaction speed, plans include reducing block processing time from 75 to 25 seconds. Swihart also announced the introduction of a voting mechanism through Zodl for ZEC holders, providing an additional feedback channel.

Conclusion

Zcash is actively adapting to the evolving cryptocurrency environment:

  • Strengths: Based on privacy and innovative solutions
  • Risks: Dependence on new technological integrations
  • Opportunities: Attraction of institutional investments
  • Threats: Competition with other privacy cryptocurrencies
